Description
The main objective of the research project is the identification of new loci causing primary hyperlipidemias, including hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia. In patients having a primary hyperlipidemia, sequencing of new candidate genes will be carried out. Also, genotyping and association and linkage studies in selected families will be done. Isolation and characterization of lipoproteins by ultracentrifugation and proteomic/metabolomic techniques will be applied in order to better characterize the primary hyperlipidemias. Results of the present project will provide a better knowledge of the molecular causes of primary hyperlipidemias, which will facilitate the clinical management of hyperlipidemic patients.
